Lens Selection - 06-28-2006, 09:43 AM

When planning for a photo session, I often have a problem selecting the lenses to drag along. Often, I am restricted to a small area to work within. Assuming primary lenses, I would like to have a chart or table that would give me the distance at which a 200 or 85 or 300 mm lens would fill the frame with a six-foot tall person...or a 22 foot auto from edge to edge or a seven foot motorcycle from edge to edge. I'm sure there is a mathmatical answer or a formula to use. Anyone ever seen this addressed?

Formula for Lenses - 06-28-2006, 11:52 AM

This website has an online version of the formula I think you are asking for. You can also click on the link to view the actual formula itself. I am not sure if this is exact or not but it seems to put me fairly close to what I am looking for in most situations.

Chris, you are good. I've looked high and low and finally started trying to work out a spreadsheet. This was exactly what I was looking for. :thumbsup

Thanks.
