Lightroom question - 08-10-2006, 02:32 PM

Are the Save and Save As commands disabled in the beta version of Lightroom? So far, the only way I can find to save my work is to Export the files. What am I missing?

You're not missing anything, export is the only way to, well, export an image out of Lightroom :-). You don't save images within Lightroom, all you're doing is creating instructions on how to change the image.

They talked about save/save as in one of the podcasts, but it was a while back. I think they were still trying to decide "save what", or else to remove them :-). Actually, might be useful for different versions of the edits.

I think Lightroom maintains the original RAW parameters with your "instructions" attached. You Export those instructions and they become embedded as the "new" image. The RAW remains untouched. Lightroom automatically saves the changed instructions.... I suppose Save or Save As would confuse this idea?

Side note: My workflow includes a shoot name folder with a RAW sub folder and a Processed sub folder. I export all RAWs in to the Processed folder and then work from CS2 on the processed images. Plus I run a batch sharpening on the processed folder when I'm completely finished with CS2.

It's getting better every day folks! Digital is here and I'm loving it!
