PHOTO TIP: Why is color balance so important?
All light sources have different color temperatures which will cause your image to appear either true to color, or off color. You don’t notice that the colors ore not correct when you are taking the photograph because your eye fools you. With film cameras the color balance is corrected when the film is processed and proofed. With digital cameras, unless the white balance is set properly there may be an odd color cast on the image, which can be difficult to correct when printing.
When using your digital camera on the Full Auto Mode, the white balance is set to Auto White Balance (AWB) by default. If you want to tune the color further, use the Program Mode and select one of the light source choices offered in the camera’s menu. Light source options may include: sun, shade, flash, incandescent, and fluorescent. Custom white balance will further insure perfect color. Look up “white balance” in your camera’s manual to see which white balance features are offered and how to use them. ©2006, Your Photo Coach
