I use dpreview's retouching forum often.

I ask because I just received CS2 , I have Elements, but Elements appears more complex than I desire. I will have to get a few books to cover CS2, but am unsure of which will benefit me the most. Being new to photoshop, It all seems daunting. I hope the learning curve isn't too steep.

I might be wrong but isn't CS2 more complicated than Elements?

If you thought elements was bad....Oh brother are you in for it. Seriously just get some books that have tutorials in them... you'll need alot of time but you'll be choppin with the best in no time. Want to know what I did to teach myself? www.worth1000.com has a beginner contest every night...play around there to learn the program. -T

Elements - 08-24-2006, 09:36 AM

Yes , compared to capture, elements is complex. More so than I desire (at this time). I don't use elements because I found that Capture is easier to use for Raw files and it will do most of what I feel I need to modify. Also, when I open a raw file in Capture and the same in Elements, The capture appears to display much better . And most of PS features are non functional for Raw (unless I'm doing something wrong). But in my logic, if elements is simply a scaled down CS2, and I'm eventually going to gravitate towards it, then I'll bite the bullet.

No where have I found a list of which files Phtoshop will work with (all features functional). I've always converted to jpg's before I started playing around within the program. If I understood more about what PS can do and understood this "layers" stuff , it may become my primary editor.

Yes, I'm very new to this. (as you can tell) So please be gentle.

Check out this link: http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html

Russell Brown is the creative director for Adobe. He has a lot of good information on his site relative to Photoshop.

Oh boy are you in trouble! Elements is a stripped down version of the real photoshop.
