Can you provide a good title or two?

Good grief, no way. That was a hundred years ago. This is one of those things that got engraved on my grey matter. I am sorry, but I can't remember any titles. The information in the books was reinforced one on one by a great teacher.

The theory is that you want to avoid optical illusions. As was pointed out above, when all 4 sides are equal, the top looks wider no matter where the picture is relative to your eye level. Way back in the Dark Ages I remember an exhibit of 4x5 contact prints that were displayed in large mats, maybe 16x20. The top and side margins were equal and a very wide lower margin. When viewed from the proper distance, all you saw was the photograph and a small border of neutral mat. The effect was very dramatic.

I wish I could help more.

yes it's always good to give an image weight at the bottom of a matted print. I mount all my fine art stuff with musuem mounts. usually portraits and such are mounted with equal space on top, bottom, and sides that are to be framed for a client.

great print and image. I would drop the (by) too.

So... does anyone have any "FREE" photoshop actions that do museum matting? Or less complicated ones like the one at the top? I don't have good enough PS2 skills to create an action that will create much of a frame.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Fantastic photo. It appears you are on the right track and the suggestions from others have merit. I have always balanced the top/bottom - sides. I will have
to look around and ponder some of the suggestions.

Serif is supposed to be easier in print and sans serif is supposed to be easier to read on the computer. I have a degree in tech writing and document design and that's about the only thing I remember. YMMV.

If it were me, I would just have really killer large print made and then have it framed with a conventional mat and let the picture speak for it's self rather than making it a poster.

If you wanted the information, have the framer put a discret brass engraved plate inset in the mat with the information on it below the picture.
