Photoshop Action help needed - 08-30-2006, 07:27 PM

To you action makers out there, is there ANY way to insert a carriage return? I'm working on an action and there's one dialog I can't seem to control. The focus is on the OK button so all I need is a way to get the Enter key to activate.

I've looked around but can't find what I'm looking for.

Any ideas?

Joe,

Look into using Photoshop scripting rather than creating an action or insert the script into the action. Look here for some info:

http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tuto...p-scripts.html

I believe that the user dialogs created in the actions can't be bypassed (can't insert a carriage return)...or I just haven't figured it out.

Jake,

Sorry, but that's just the way it is with Photoshop...sooo many hidden jewels.

As to the scripting, if you can write javascript, PS Scripting is pretty easy. Look at the call references linked on the page I posted to help you get started.

Joe,

As to your original question, if you can find the call for the filter/function you are applying, you can just script the call with the correct settings and just apply it. This will bypass the confirmation dialog.

Here's a dumb, related question:

How do you get the actions into Photoshop and get them to work?

Believe it or not, I used to know this several years ago, but have since upgraded to CS, lost my actions and forgot how to do it.

Two ways:

1.) the actions panel is usually paired and hidden behind the history panel. Find it and click the black arrow head, select load action and browse to find.

2.) Even easier, drag the action file into an open photoshop session and it will automatically load it.

Steve,

I perused the scripting language and I have questions. Do I need to purchase Windows Visual Studio or some other programing language to create and a VB script? Do I create and run these scripts within PS CS2? I mean, I know VBA in Excel, but that's for Excel. I have never used VBA in Excel to run another application.

Actually, you can create the script in any text editor. You just have to make sure your using the correct syntax. If you have VBA studio, that's fine, but you don't have to use any thing special to write your scripts.

PSCS2 will run the script for you.

Edit:

I would suggest just downloading one of the free scripts available or opening one of the samples in notepad (or whatever) and studying the structure/syntax. That's usually how I start my stuff.
