OK. Here's a new one.... (it's always a new one with me) Here I am in Bridge (ya'll are surprised I could find my way there..Aren't ya?) Anyhoo here I am correcting 500 photo's (seems like that many) I really just can't believe how horrible my pictures look....Then I had an epiphany or a brain fart.
**I had taken a class on workflow a few weeks ago that Raymond put on in the Woodlands. I remembered he said something about checking or unchecking something in bridge.....I unchecked the auto on exposure and low and behold my beautiful photo appeared! Oh My Gosh! I almost started crying. I unchecked all the other stuff too and it made my photo soooo much better than auto had done. And this after adjusting how many thousands (not exaggerating) of photo's?
Am I the only person who will rat herself out or does this happen to others and they just don't mention it?

Thanks?

Bragging about mistakes doesn't come easily. You did well.
What did you learn from this?

I once spent 45 minutes trying to figure out why my printer was not printing (text only)

Uninstalled the drivers, re-installed the new ones from the web site. Unplug printer, turn off PC, turn it all back on hook it all back up still would not work. I tried EVERYTHING I would tell someone else to do.

then I had a briliant idea, replace the ink tanks..... whoooooohooooo that did the trick.

then a few years later I found out that many of the Epson printers were NOT reporting the correct ink levels in the printer monitor utility

If I listed all the bonehead things I have done with my 1D in the past week, well, let's just say that it would be a long list. Tip: check your exposure compensation settings before shooting two hundred frames of a fencing competition.

Oh Wise Budha......I have come to realize God has a sense of humor!!! He tries it out on me everyday!

Oh and also not to be too proud of oneself...Although I discovered that it works better with everything turned off.....I can't figure out how to keep it off? I am having to go in and uncheck the auto crap(on every stinkin photo) I thought I was about to be ahead BUT, I think I am still spendin about the same amount of time to get that stuff off........Man! I just can't get a break!

Trials and Tribulations of Tammie-Stay tuned for the next adventures.

See Ya!

I am slow too - - 09-07-2006, 10:42 PM

A loooonnnggg time ago - before computer retouching - someone I knew gave me a Pasche airbrush so I could lean to retouch my photos. I bought an air tank, read what I could about airbrushes and tried to teach myself how to use it. The whole idea was that you had to keep it moving to avoid paint buildup - which could cause a splatter (called a spider). No matter what I did, I kept getting spiders.

So I signed up for an airbrush class given by Professional Photographers of America - a week long class in Indiana. (I live in Houston). The class was pretty expensive, plus a week in a hotel and driving there - big investment for me.

The first day of class, the instructor was beginning to explain how to use the tool and the first thing she said was: "Take the protective CAP off." Well, Duh! How was I to know that was a protective cap? Of course I had never tried to use it without the cap on!

Pretty expensive trip to find that out. Actually, it was a great class and I was never sorry and went back the next year.

I once was editing a wedding video and had spent nearly 30 hrs... My kid crawls in and turns off my machine...Corrupts my video RAID!!! Yeah I had backups of the raw tapes, but the edit was gone gone.

Needless to say, I don't shoot video much anymore these days...I just couldn't get efficient enough to make it worthwhile financially. But that's another topic. :)

THHHHHAAAAAANNNNKKKKK YYYOOOOUUU John! I've ALWAYS had a lot of hate reserved for the "auto" settings that no matter what were always on.

I had the exact same issue with the 'auto correct' feature in photoshop/bridge. I was so happy when I learned how to turn it all off!

I teach Photoshop and sometimes feel it is the blind leading the blind. I know I probably shouldn't say this.....I should pretend to be the "all knowing Yoda of digital" but it just ain't so. This technology is a fluid and everchanging medium. It just seems better if you travel it with a group. I have a class and most of my folks are regular members....kinda like this friendly forum. I really appreciate the community here and it is a great resource for information. Many of the suggested links I find here end up on my "cool links" section of my website.
Thanks!
