Took this yesterday of my son playing at the fire station. (one of the perks of living in the sticks...heh, heh)...
I think it turned out GOOD...but not GREAT...there is nothing done at all to the photo...so I'd be really interested in what you guys think and/or would do...
THANKS!

I think it looks pretty good. One thing you could try is make a few duplicate layers and in one try and tone down the highlights on the jacket and helmet, and on another layer bring out your son's face a bit more.

Honestly, I think if you just print this at 8x10 or so you'll have a great photo to frame.

Maybe some fill flash, a very fast lens wide open to just get the childs face in focus and blur out the very distracting background in the upper right corner (or photoshop it to a blur). Also the second figure isn't really needed is it?

The focus of the shot is the childs face and it is not what you see and focus on. My eye keeps moving around in the frame. Try Capa's advice.

It's hard to say without seeing the location, but if I was to get picky about the shot I would say find a different angle to get rid of the clutter in the background. Or, as mentioned, use a different lens and/or setting to throw the background out of focus a little more.

As far as angle, here is why it's at THIS angle...behind them was the truck, which you see part of...and then the garage...if I was standing at the garage or truck, I was looking directly into the sun...I was running around them trying to get best angle...and God love my friend, he wasn't in the "let's shoot water for 10 minutes while she gets the best photo" kinda mood. Already figured out that I had about 3 seconds to get it, or it was over! The lens/photoshop thing is cool...will work on that...THANK YOU!!!!
