Need portrait retouching (image not posted) - 09-14-2006, 10:30 AM

I have a portrait of my son and me that I scanned, but it lost its pristine portrait appearance in the process. It isn't horrible, but it could use a little help. I have no idea how to retouch portraits so would someone who really knows how to do this be willing to do a quick touch-up for me and convert to b&w? I'd rather email the image to the willing party than post it here for a "contest."

Edit: If it makes a difference, I'm going to be using it for web, not printing it.

Sorry about asking for a freebie. I'll go another route with this one.

I would let the post sit for a bit. Someone that's good at this kind of thing will see the post and help you out. If I thought I could do it justice I would gladly give it a try. I have retouching software (add-on to CS2) and have done a little of it but I'm not very impressed with my skills

Maybe you're right. I just thought that after 12 hours and no replies, people were put off by my request. I'll be patient and let it set for a while longer.

Thanks.

If nobody with skills ponies up I'll take a shot at it... Is it just scratches and noise? or color? or what? Come to think of it... that might be why there were no respoinses... the might be skeert Sometimes retouch can mean pixel by pixel reconstruction

PS... I just found this so they probably just misse it...

Oh, no, nothing like that. After scanning it, a red color cast appears in the image, especially our faces. I can remove that with curves or levels, but there's also a shiney highlight on my forehead and a couple of other places that don't appear in the original print. I'd like it to look nice because I'm going to extract myself and use the image on a couple of web sites.

Is it copyrighted by another photographer? When you say "portrait" that's what I think of a professional portrait...

It is a portrait that was shot by a local portrait photographer, which I paid for. Do you think I'm breaking a copyright by scanning it and manipulating the digital image for my own use?

Call him... He'll tell you what his opinion is... From what I've been told, most pro's would consider being asked a good thing...

I was just about to post saying that I'll call him tomorrow and ask him about it.

Thanks.

That's what I would do. It is a violation of federal copy right law. When people call and ask me I'm usually pretty accomidating... he might even sell you digital file if there was one... if you're only using it for web stuff.

Thanks, Laura. With the type of photography that I do, I don't have to worry about the copyright stuff 99 percent of the time. I appreciate you bringing that up.

It's not just an edit. It's a copy of someone elses work.

More than likely the photographer will give him permission to do what he needs to do with the scan. Hat's off to John for caring.
