Posing ideas for business portraits - 09-22-2006, 09:15 AM

I have two women coming to the studio tonight for both individual headshots and an image of them together for their real estate advertising materials. I'm looking for ideas on posing the two of them together. I'm familiar with the standard shots, but has anyone seen anything a little more creative? This has to be shot on white for their flyers and post cards, so I'm limited to what we can do in the background. They will be wearing black business suits.

I haven't discussed the 'look' they want to put forth, but I can't imagine it will be anything less than open and professional. But then again in real estate they might want something different. This is a shot from another team in their office.

Another idea might be to stagger them slightly but facing towards each other sort of like this but not full length.

Here's another that's a little cheesy, but might work well for two women also.

After looking through several hundred shots on the Keller-Williams websites, I'm shocked at the poor quality of the majority of the portraits. I see an opportunity for a marketing niche here!

Any input is appreciated.

How about trying to incorporate some type of prop? Desk, laptop, looking at a planner (nice, leatherbound one) together, holding a big key (real estate theme - key to your future???),

Something like one of these... http://www.fotosearch.com/PHT043/paa043000068/

My only suggestion would be that if they are partners you want to pose them equally. Not one seated one standing or one closer to the camera one further way. If the are not equal then you can seated the subordinate or put them further from the camera. Props might work well. Example of a husband wife team (equal partners) Attachment 25690

Scott, if you have some time, check out the various 'technique' pages at dg28. This guy specialises in business portraits/ magazine headshots of business people.

http://www.dg28.com/technique.html
The archive pages on that site and other parts also have a lot of great ideas for these kinds of portraits.

Other than that, real estate portraits seem to be almost uniformly terrible.

Thanks for the responses.

I might wing this one. I've asked them to bring some signage. Their original idea was much more formal. I just wanted to give them some options. At least they are hiring Amy for makeup. That will make my job easier!!!
