Sorting through photos - 09-25-2006, 12:01 AM

Hi all,

I really like the workflow of Raw Shooter Essentials and the ability to classify (1 2 3) the photos in a large set. My question to all of you is this: Is there software that works the same way for JPEGS?

Thanks,
Don

Adobe Bridge - part of Photoshop CS2 - allows you to sort by rating 1 - 5 as well as by color code. Very handy.

Also you could try adobe's beta software light room. It can be downloaded from http://labs.adobe.com .....you can add all of the photo's you want to use to a quick collection or give them a star rating

photoshop elements also does a good job of this

Photo Mechanic is THE standard which PROFESSIONALS use. Doesn't mean you have to but why not!?

You can also create new catagories for pictures in Bridge for classification. Deke McClelland's Adobe Photoshop CS2 One-On-One has an excellent section on customizing Bridge.

Once you've used it, you'll understand. My time is worth a lot of money and it saves me a lot of time... and hence... money. Just download the demo version and play with it... you'll be hooked. Bridge just isn't as powerful. It's like comparing Elements (Bridge) to Photoshop (Photo Mechanic).

Oh, and it's by far the fastest viewer/organizer I've ever seen. All the others I've used just drag and make me want to throw the PC out a window.

I love photo mechanic. So fast and easy to import your pics, flip through them and tag the keepers.
I wish Lightroom was as easy. Maybe by the time the real version is out. I haven't checked out the beta 4 released today...

Thanks for all the input. I'll look at Photo Mechanic. I've played with LightRoom beta 3 some. It just takes too much effort to bring everything into a collection. I should be able to browse to a folder and bring up all the photos there, then output the ones I want to another folder. Works like a breeze with Raw Shooter. I've not played with CS2 so I don't know about Bridge. I've got a trial copy, so I might just have to try it.

Thanks.

Really? I stick my card in the reader and Lightroom automatically pops up a window. I name the folder i want the pics to go into and bam... it downloads, renames, and shows all my thumbs.

Maybe it is because I told it not scan all my existing files, when I installed it.

oh existing files, sorry. I've only used it to import new files since i don't really have a need to process old files. Guess I can't help you with that one.
