Every year I photograph about 400 senior citizens in the retirement village I live in. these photos are "portraits" for a directory. Many of the men play golf every day usually with sun glasses and show up for the shoot with out their glasses and with very white rings around their eyes and a ruddy complexion. The resulting photos look terrible. I use natural light in the studio awith a mid grey muslin back drop.
Anyone have any ideas or experiences with this kind of problem?

Very much like "Farmer Forehead" in west Texas where wearing a hat all day while plowing gives them a white forehead. You can use make up to help. There used to be a product sold to photographers called Farmer Forehead, but I haven't heard of it in years. They make cover sticks in several shades including dark tan. I have used it for years to blend in swimsuit tan lines. Men may be a little hesitant, but tell them it will make them look ten years younger. If you can get just one volunteer to do it and let everyone see before and after it will probably be an easy sell. I would also try to find a "cute young thing" to put the make up on them. If all else fails there is always Photoshop.
