correct size for wallet photos? - 05-04-2005, 10:12 PM

I want to make wallet sized photos of a picture I took.
Since money is always tight I am going to use the "Do It Yourself" photo kiosk at the local Walmart.
Should I crop the pictures and resize them or just crop them and take them there to let the machine do it?

If you are using a kiosk, it should let you zoom and crop in the machine...

I never use the kiosk at Sam's because it tries to do an "auto correction" that ends up muddling my already balanced photos.

I hope I won't have any trouble with the kiosk trying to help me with anything other than the crop!
Wish me luck!

The kiosk and walmart.com are both 19 cents. But the Kodak kiosk is 24 cents. Use the Fuji Aladdin, best price and quality.

Wallets are a 5x7 crop, so you can crop to a 5x7 in Photoshop and you should be perfect for printing out wallets.

3.5"x2.5" is what walmart.com lists their wallet prints as.

Be aware that using the online printing and kiosk's the auto-correct software will "fix" your image. The only way to prevent this is to give the images to the operator and have them override at the console. Good luck getting someone at Walmart who either knows how to do this or is willing to.

I use a Sam's lab.. and they all know me and see me coming.... they seem happy to do it. In most cases, I think they'd rather work with the pictures from the "real" photographers than to process all of the insipid shots they deal with all day.

Wait just a minute . . . "insipid" is what I do best. I represent that crack

Shelley, just show them the picture of your avatar, and while they're in a fit of the giggles, use their equipment and run...

Everyone keeps mentioning Sam's Club, but do you have Costco there in Texas? I'm curious to know how they do there. Also, probably an obvious point, but no one's mentioned it yet. You can order wallets from Walmart, but it is MUCH cheaper to crop two wallets on to a 4x6 print and then cut them out when you get home!

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Walmart.com states that their price for 2 wallets is .58 but my local walmart gives them to me for 2/.19 . That's pretty cheap. Also you can pick up their Kiosk from home software which will let you crop and color and so forth at home and then just pick up. Unfortunately it won't let you order wallets but you can still order them from walmart.com and pick up at one hour photo at your local store.
Be careful about your sizes. That is what gave me so much hell when doing senior pictures.

My Walmart does that too.
I was able to get the pictures printed with very little headache and he loved them!
I will have to post one for you guys to see.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I couldn't do it without you! :D
