Adobe rocks!!! - 05-05-2005, 02:29 PM

While still grumbling about paying another $150 for my CS2 upgrade, I decided to call Adobe customer service to moan about the price. The very nice person on the phone asked when I purchased my CS upgrade. Good news for me is that Adobe is sending me the upgrade to CS2 for just the cost of shipping ($6). All I have to do is fax them my receipt from the Apple Store where I purchased it.

Way to go Adobe! Apple could learn a thing or two from them with regard to customer service.

Everyone can...a little goodwill goes a long way in today's competitive market. The minimal cost of this to them (let's face it, about $.030 for the CD, and about $3.00 for the book and packaging) just gained them a customer for a LONG time and a lot of free publicity!

Talk about a wise investment!

It certainly can't hurt to ask! I'd call the 800 number. Did you register your copy of CS with Adobe? I had to fax in my receipt from the Apple Store, but if I would have bought it direct, they would have shipped it immediately.

Good luck.

I have heard of this happening before, at some other forums. :D
Adobe charges a lot for their programs...but they do appreciate their customers and treat them right....!

COne....take notice!

Adobe has always done this with their upgrades (if you bought the previous version within 60 days or so of the new release), they just have not publicized it.

It's a good thing to do, I agree.

Also, Adobe is on a media blitz to generate alot of good will with their upcoming fight with Micro$oft. Adobe recently bought Macromedia, so now the combined company has several products that compete with M$'s line. Also M$ recently announced a product to be introduced with Longhorn to try and replace PDF files (which is Adobe's format).

Let's support Adobe/Macromedia for their great products such as Photoshop, PageMaker, Dreamweaver, Flash, etc.

Sadly it seems I bought the CS upgrade slightly too early (thought it was March, turns out it was February 13). I called Adobe and they can't send me the CS2 upgrade for any cheaper than the price online. :(

just as a rule of thumb, never buy software that is older than a year old. A newer version will hit the selft about the time you get it installed on your hard drive

I just had the same experience. Purchased it on February 18 and they said NO. A shame considering I have 12 different Adobe programs registered with them.

I'm not too surprised. I helped them prosecute a distributor of pirated software and never so much as a thank you, so why should I expect they'd want to keep me happy with this upgrade.

For now I'll use CS but in the future I will try the open source competitor Gimp before I pay for another upgrade. (I guess I'm a little grumpy...)

Last word...

My Photoshop CS2 arrived today. Six business days from frist call to receipt. Interesting that I also received a survey email asking about my support experience today. Any guesses on how I replied :)

Cathryn's photo shoot will be the first for me to use the new ACR 3.1!!! Excellent!

I am glad I stumbled onto the Texas Photo Forum. As soon as I did,I came across srwatters post about contacting Adobe with respect to having bought Adobe CS upgrade, only to have CS2 come out shortly thereafter.I too had just bought Adobe CS upgrade, and weeks later suffered on finding out that the new CS2 program had been released.I contacted Adobe like Scott had,and sure enough, Adobe was equally kind to me,and sent me a free copy of the new CS2,after I provided them with an e-mailed scan of my reciept. Thanks to the Forum for the flow of wisdom and information, and thanks to srwatters for the tip.
Clay

I'm glad to hear you were able to take advantage of Adobe's policy.

Adobe is also pretty good to college students (even better than Apple). I recently bought a PowerBook and figured I should probably go legit with everything on it (and pretty much everything from now on - call it a guilty conscience if you will). Went down to my school's bookstore to pick up CS2 - $300! The entire Creative Suite was $400 (PS, Acrobat 7.0, GoLive, etc), normally a $1200 bundle. :D
