Chroma-key backdrop screen

What are the problems with using a green or blue chroma key backdrop and how can the best be solved?

The biggest problem is lighting it correctly so that it can be easily dropped out. The light on it has to be even and uniform so that it has the same color throughout the image.

Even then, though, fly away hairs, "big hair," and small gaps created by clothing and limb position can result in blue or green halos...

I found the results to be less than satisfying. I ended up going with a different solution.

I went with a white or black backdrop and using Corel Knockout

Its tedious, but the results are great.

I have used a balck backdrop but ran into some problems with people with black hair but with careful lighting it can be striking. I am going to try using a dark gray backdrop, hopefully that will work without too much time involved or color cast.
