Not to discount the possiblity of it being caused by the quality of the lens, how can you discount the possiblity of the UV filter working like a hood.
For me when I see vignetting the first thing I do is remove anything in front of the lens (hood, filter) just to elimentate the possibility.

If it was the UV or a filter it would be more uniform all around the image.

Light fall off from poor optics , try shooting at a smaller f stop . you might take it and do a test shot at each f stop . would bet it stops at some point as you stop down.

There is a Photoshop plugin, and stand-alones available. This is supposed to help with the problem you're having. I haven't tried it myself.
