share some of your experience with doing some portrait shots in front of tree. I would like to use at least one light and I realize i need to do some dragging in order to expose the tree lights. I will probely use telephoto to bring subject away from tree to keep from washing out because of different exposures. I also thought I would set up to do some overlays and try that method. Give me some insite or any other methods you all have tried and seems to work pretty good. (post some examples) | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. A good chance to try HDR, as long as you can keep the subject from moving during several exposures.

hdr would probely work but keeping 2 and 4 year old still would be another problem on its own. but I have thought about ur idea on just doing an image without them and then adding them to same composed shot and photoshop them togather.
wish me luck, will post some results

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that. www.silverstreetphoto.com

I like to get them away from the tree some to really blur out the lights.
Here are some from a few days ago. To get this look I have to shoot in burst mode to get one that is sharp.
Slow shutter+kids=blur, but in a burst of about 5 frames I usually get a keeper.

This is the best I could do...
My wife and daughter decorated the tree on Saturday after TG and I took some snap shots with my new 2.8 "L" lenses! Here is my favorite of the batch. I love the 2.8 DOF; blurred the foreground of the Christmas tree and the back ground of the back of the tree as well as everything else! 2.8 baby; I love it!

Nice shot, but the thing that stands out to me is the fact that your daughter looks just like the ornament on the tree!
