web vs local colorspaces :( - 11-19-2006, 10:04 PM

From the post in this thread:
http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...328#post304973

nitromike said something about "not converting my colorspace to sRGB before posting pics to the web"

...i notice the same thing with my pictures. When I'm in photoshop, the colors look much richer, heck even as I save them as JPEGs and open them with the windows viewer, they look pretty good, but when they're loaded on my browser (firefox) the colors dull out a bit, check out the attached image.

I'm guessing it has to do with the color space stuff... could someone point me in the right direction to get the pictures looking the same on a browser as they do on photoshop?

Thanks,

Jairo

Before saving, you MUST convert the profile to srgb (not assign, convert). If you don't then non-color space aware software (like your web browser) assumes that the colors are srgb and that causes them to shift.

What version of PS do you have? The menu choices to do this conversion have moved over time.

For a while before I figured that out I was over saturating my images to get good colors on the web, I should go back and reprocess all the old images .. but nahhhhhhh

You might want to take a look at this web article. http://www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_...Gprofiles.html

Gives a good explaination of why you have to convert for the web if you want to have consistent results.
