panoramic pictures? - 05-10-2005, 09:11 PM

the other evening I took some pictures of the sunset. whe n i got the photos developed i was so surprised because 4 out of the 10 shots came out as a 4x10 panoramic photo. the photo developer told me my camera must have been set on panoramic setting. however my camera has no setting, that I know of. the 4 photos were taken with a 80-200 sears zoom lens and my camera is a pentax k1000. has this happened to anyone or does anybody know why these came out as panoramic view maybe my camera or lens has a panoramic setting?

sounds like the lab had the printer set for the panoramic setting and didn't want you to know they screwed up
how do the negatives look? If they look like a standard neg, then the lab printed wrong, if they look letterbox, then you got a pano

I think the lab screwed up. (I assume you are making sure your winder locks up after every shot?) If the negatives look ok, make 'em do it right. Try to impress on 'em that your camera isn't capable of panoramic photos.

They've probably never SEEN a K-1000

It's possible your mirror stuck and didn't flip completely out of the way... again, check the negative... if the top half of the neg is black, that could be a sign of your mirror sticking.

Brad I think your right on about my mirror sticking.

the 4 pano pics, the negatives were sqeezed to about half the size of a regular negative. But all 4 were sqeezed to different sizes so there is no consistency to the panoramic negatives as there would be if it were on a setting or if the lab had the machine on pano setting. also I looked at the foam that cushion the mirror when the shutter is tripped and it looks like it may be sticky.

since pointing to the mirror sticking its making more sence given what the negatives look like. thanks for the advice and i'll get new foam and see if that helps. :)
