Spot!!

I was working on some photos I took yesterday and saw this "spot" on the blue sky. I cleaned my lens and checked the sensor and saw nothing. Does anyone have an idea as to what this is?

Try cleaning it again... check the lens too on both sides.

WONDERFUL. I have only had my lens off about 4 times so I wonder if this was there from the store? Oh well, now I get to study the many ways to do this.

It's very obviously the condensation smudge from a paranormal event that occured just prior to the convergence of two parallel planes of inference.

Or, it could be a dust spot on the sensor.

If you have Photoshop, you can clone the spot out. I do it all the time since there's no way to keep a 100 percent dustless sensor in a DSLR.

Shoot a plain even lit wall with the camera in regular and then in portrait mode and then review the pics-the spot should rotate but be in the same area of the total frame.
Even if the spot is over just one pixel on the sensor it may show up in a photo-that is pretty small.

I took my D70 in to have it cleaned once and it cost $75. A friend at work recommended one of these do-dads and it has worked like a charm. Just remove the lens, hold the camera so that the lens mount is facing down, open the shutter and give it a few blasts of air. I was getting the same dust spots that you're experiencing, but not anymore.

I don't know if this means that I'll never again have to have my sensor professionally cleaned, but it should cut down on the number of times I need to do it.

Funny how hard it is to find a plain white wall around my place. I check for spots on my sensors frequently by over exposing through my Expo Disc. Gives me a solid light gray image and the dust spots stand out like a sore thumb. If a bulb doesn't get them out I use the swabs and sensor cleaning fluid I get from Scott at CropLines. www.croplines.com Whatever you do DON'T use canned air! I did that... once...
