B&W conversions? - 05-13-2005, 10:59 AM

I tried to use the Robin Purcell B&W action on this shot but couldn't get it to look 'right'. What about a simple desaturate and the adjust the brightness/contrast and levels? How does this look?

her lips in the B&W fade away.
I would suggest you turn up the levels before you desaturate it.

Great idea. I never though about adjusting before the desaturate. I'll give it a try tonight.

also, play with each color level seperately... the reds, the greens, etc...
That works for me.

Then after you do that you can adjust the levels of the B&W. :) That should work great! :)

My attempt with the same action: Brightness +9, Contrast +16. No dodging done.

I think you had too much green in the previous one.

Loungelizard,
You didn't make your conversion completely B&W...
I tried it out real quick, I saturated the reds more and changed the curves then changed it to B&W.

Took a stab at it.. straight channel mixer.. 80% red, 5% green, 20% blue.. converted to monochrome.
