Soft can also be used to describe the way an image is lit... as in soft light, which is non targeted, broad light like you would get from a large open window... as opposed to harsh light that you would get from a small bare bulb.

...and then there are soft focus lenses. They render the center portion in focus while gently going out of focus toward the edges. Popular for portraits or sometimes found in very inexpensives lenses.
