My PS CS2 RAW workflow - 05-18-2005, 12:39 PM

Does anyone see a glaring error in my workflow below. I know there are many more things that can be done to an image. I'm looking to make sure that I'm not doing things out of order such that I'm losing detail or messing up the flow.

Here is my sort of standard workflow for studio portraits
- Ingest (copy) from CF using Photo Mechanic into dated & model named folder
- Create folders proofs, tif, web
- open image shot with GMB color checker and set exposure and white balance
- save settings as camera default in ACR
- batch process using action that converts from RAW, adds copyright, resizes, saves as jpeg into proofs folder
- upload proofs to web site for model to see

With each keeper image
- open image with ACR 16 bit, ProPhoto working space, 3000x2000, 240 dpi
- adjust brightness, contrast, and curve to get best results in ACR
- open into PSCS2
- add copyright with file->info
- crop to either 8x10 or 8x12 300 dpi
- adjust levels
- adjust brightness/contrast
- create duplicate layer
- quick mask eyes, lips, other elements that need sharpening
- USM sharpen
- create duplicate layer
- clone stamp blemishes, etc.
- quick mask skin, other elements that need softening
- Gaussian blur
- USM sharpen entire image as necessary
- convert to 8 bit mode
- convert to profile sRGB
- save as tif to tif folder

Use batch process action to open tif images, resize for web, and save as jpeg to web folder.

One thing I do differently is that instead of applying a mask to the eyes after duplicating the layer, I sharpen the bottom layer and soften the top layer. I then use the eraser tool (on which it is easy to adjust opacity for desired effect) to erase the top layer on the eyes, mouth, etc.

Just something different you can try.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
