Yes. I believe that to be correct.

Yes, that is correct. If you are outside on a bright sunny day and your subject is in the open daylight, shoot the sun. If you are in bar, shoot the closest overhead light that is illuminating your subect.
HUGE thanks to Fran Reisner for helping me understand how to use the ExpoDisc.
Oh, and make sure you get your exposure set first.

I personally take my whtie balance shot using the expodisc from the subject's position shooting back towards the intended camera position. I've also seen photographers just point it towards the light source (sun, window, etc). The expodisc website has a video tutorial if you haven't seen it yet.

The videos are also on the disc that comes with the expodisc but sometimes I also aim it at the light source in low light conditions.

I have had the Expo/Disc for about 3 years and have always placed it over the lens and then pointed the camera at the area I will be shooting the shot.
The great thing about the Expo to me is in mixed lighting, that is were you have more then one light source of different temperatures.
Lets say you are in a room with some florescent lights and some tungsten light, which light would you point the Expo at. For this reason I have always pointed it at the subject.

Thanks everyone. I am going to play the video today and then play with it a bit. (Of course after I go jump into a frozen lake.)

No other changes other than resizing for the web.. first shot is with AWB set, the second one is the same lighting conditions with the Expodisc..
After seeing these results, I went out and bought my own a couple days later.

Here is another test. Same subject, same camera settings(NikonD50, 50mm, 1/60, f1.8), and different white balances. No modifications were done to the pictures other than resizing.

I'd have to say that the expodisc's balance is just slightly better than the cloudy balance.. but only slightly.

A question that I have is what happens when you have multiple light sources? For example, I'm inside a building that has fluorescent overhead lighting, but I'm also getting daylight through windows. How do you set your WB using ExpoDisc in such a situation?
