It helps

me to realize that I don't know much about Photoshop...

I've got the Photoshop Channels book... Maybe that will help.

I like the first one best. It would be better to me if the background were a bit more different from the dress in tone/color.

I've been doing Photoshop now for about six months. I used elements for about four months before that. Everything I've learned, basically, comes from Professional Photoshop and The Canyon Conundrum, two books by Dan Margulis. They are not easy reading, but they are extremely helpful, especially if you like to know not only what you can do, but why you might want to do it. The first is on color correction in general, and the second is on the LAB color space. I've read the LAB book three times now, and I'm on my third go round of Professional Photoshop. I can't recommend them highly enough.

There's still a ton of stuff I don't really get at all, but I feel like I am making some improvement, and I like to work on stuff posted here because its so different from what I shoot. The downside is that when I look at everything I did 4 months to a year ago, it all needs to be recorrected.

Wow. That's pretty impressive Duffy.

I can relate to "looking back" and needing to recorrect. I imagine that in another year I'll look back and want to fix what I think is pretty good now. I hope so anyway.

Wow! I think I'll snatch up a copy of both of those books! I was completely lost reading all of that, but I love the results.

The background is the dress. I was lying on the train. So ya think it would be a better shot if I laid on something else?

Duh, didn't realize that, and it complicates it. Anyway, it would help if your torso were better separated from the background.

I remember a Dilbert where Wally got a suit made out of the same material that was used for the cubical walls- only his head was visible then.

I hope you don't mind one more attempt. I really like the pose and the dress. I added a little bit of a tone to the second black & white.

Good luck with your photography...........
