I like using a WhiBal card. It is supposed to be color neutral gray and not the same as an 18% gray exposure card. It is plastic and very durable. The only problem is that in a noisy photo I have trouble color picking gray pixels. Larger cards are sold, too.

This is a crop of my son under the basket ball gym lights and on camera flash (WB corrected in ACR).

Can u use your palm of your hand to set w/b or is there too much color in it and that's why a gray r white card is needed...I haven't messed with this in my D200 yet

The palm of your hand is not a neutral white and therefore can't be used. Well, I guess unless you have very pasty white skin. LOL!!! By rule, even something like a white shirt should not be used unless you have to because it may not be a true neutral white.

Martin,
Thanks for the reply..Right after I posted it I knew it was a bad ? and I tried to delete but couldn't find out how. The reason about the palm is I've used it to check exposure setting for along time, and was a thought if there was some way to do WB the same it would do away with carrying something esle with me. Always have my hand.....Still, there might be a way to do it that no one has thought of!!!!!! Makes me go HUMMM(sp)

Gregg
