I'd check this one out carefully before I bought it!!! I never heard of these guys before. Are they legit?
Anyway...CS2 is the thing to get now.

I dunno about the legitmacy of the place. That would be up to potential buyers to check out. Just posting a link I found. I guess CS is cheap because of CS2 and then CS2 will be cheap in 6 months because of CS3...and so on and so on. :P

Sounds almost too good to be true to me. I think I'm gonna let someone else take the plunge first.

Although I am very suspicious usually of low prices on photoshop, I may chance this one. I have looked through their website and talked online to one of their reps and it appears to be legit. Here is the transcipt....

You are now chatting with: 'John'
John: Hello chris campbell, thanks for contacting USA Surplus Software. How may I help you today?
You: I was wondering about photoshop cs that you have for sale on your site. Is it the full version?
John: All of our products are OEM, which stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means that our software comes in a jewel case with the original CD, a unique CD-KEY (for installation/activation), but without the box and manual (which can mostly be found online or built into the program). All of our products are FULL versions, and the fact that they are OEM does not affect their use. They are not Academic or Demo versions.
You: So this is a real adobe photoshop and not a copy that has been pirated? I ask because of the low price.
You: Hello?
John: Yes
You: So this is a real adobe photoshop and not a copy that has been pirated? I ask because of the low price.
John: This is a legal copy...if you are not satisfied you can return the product for a full 100% refund
You: Ok. Thanks for the help.

To my knowledge there is no such thing as an OEM version of photoshop CS. Elements was often 'given away' with other products, hence the OEM. I would call adobe directly on their 800 number to verify that the seller is authorized, and that such a thing as an OEM version exists.

If you get positive answers from Adobe, then I'd buy photoshop 7 for $65 and upgrade to CS2 for $149. You get full Photoshop CS2 for $200.

My guess is they are pirated copies, and when you try to activate, it will fail.

YMMV.

Ok so I called Adobe and after investigating they say they are not an authorized reseller. I guess Ill stay away from it then.

I've been looking to do just that. I'd do it in a minute if I could find PS 7 for $65. So far, I've found PS 6 for $129 and PS 5 for $109, but the vendor says if you try to upgrade version 5 to CS2, you have to call Adobe to finalize the upgrade. I dunno.

I was quoting the price from the original link to CS in this thread. If it's from the same vendor, then I doubt it's legit either.

There are some "legal" version of Photoshop 7.0 on E-Bay for less than $50 to the $169 (buy it now). Just read carefully the information. Alot of older versions show up when a new version has been out for awhile. Wharehouses are finding older versions and dumping them...

You guys have already figured it out, but I'll just repeat that this isn't a legit version. Adobe no longer sells OEM versions. PhotoshopNews had a great piece on this type of "deal" last week called "If It Sounds Too Good To Be True...":

Posted this on another topic with a very similar title - I really must pay more attention.............

Anyway, reposting here.

Adobe are running a deal for Canon users at the moment, $299 for a full, registerable copy of Photoshop CS2 with manuals etc as long as you have a bundled copy of Elements supplied with a Canon product:

http://store.adobe.com/store/product...ml?id=catCanon

I've no idea if this is applicable to other makes etc, I only have this link. It is not supposed to be valid for copies of Elements purchased separately.

I can say a couple of things about this that I know are true:
1) It's a real offer from Adobe that they will honor - my copy arrived yesterday (too excited - quite sad really!)
2) The website link doesn't work properly for actually placing the order (I put my bundled PS Elements serial number in and the full price came up - I've no idea if it discounts further on, I wasn't risking it!)
3) If you ring up and ask the sales person about it, they will find the deal (this may take a while) and place the order - this is what I did.

$600 was too rich for me for the processing I do - $300 was tempting enough to treat myself.

Shockingly enough, the same offer IS available to Nikon users as well (just tried swapping 'Nikon' for 'Canon' in the address) :

http://store.adobe.com/store/product...ml?id=catNikon

What a surprise..............
