Homemade spotlights - 05-23-2005, 04:42 PM

I've been wanting to do a few mini-studio shots with spotlighting, but I can't figure out how to get the lighting right. Does anyone have any experience with homemade spotlights? I need a pretty small one, just big enough to highlight a chess piece or two on a board.

you don't mention if your shooting film or digital. you can use a high intensity desklamp from an office supply store. they are tungsten bulbs and are pretty close to 3200K in color. if digital just adjust the white balance, if film you will need a 80A blue filter to convert back to daylight. you can also use black construction paper to form a snoot for bettter lighting control.
