Photoshop tips: sharpen your photos - 05-24-2005, 04:24 AM

O.K., I know that many of you have been doing this forever, but I just learned a simple way to sharpen up photos in a few easy steps, so I thought I'd share it.

With your photo open follow the following steps
1. Layer > Duplicate Layer > OK
2. Using copy of layer > Filter > Other > Hi Pass
3. Change the blending mode (located in the layers window pane) from normal to either "soft light", "hard light", or "vivid light" depending on your preference
4. Change Opacity to somewhere between 30% and 50%, again depending on your preference
5. Your done!
If you unclick the eyeball so you don't view the new layer you'll be able to see the before and after views.

Just thought I'd share my limited knowledge.

Everyone share you tips for all to enjoy!

David

Thanks. I'll try it. I'd give some PS tips, if I had any.

Why would you do all of this instead of just doing a smart blur or something? Are the results that much better?

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

It looks sharper to me at 100% on large photos. It was recommended for stock photography. It also gives you more control of the look.
