All my model shoots I shoot RAW. I download those and burn to CDROM for backup. Consider those digital negatives. I then do all my editing in PSCS2 and save in tif format @300 dpi. Those are the masters. Finally I convert those into jpeg resizing to 600x4x0, 8bit, sRGB. Those are for the models online portfolio and posting on web sites.

For sports and general photography I shoot jpeg fine. Those stay as jpeg for me. I suppose I could convert to tiff for archiving, but it just doesn't make sense to me.
Your first sentence caught me off guard. ;~] LOL...

I noticed you said you saved your origional to cd... Here's a WEB site that can help decide what are the Best CDs to buy. You may already know this. If so I apologize.

Another suggestion is to save to an external HD. They are getting cheap...
I have a site that sells an external HD kit for about $77 with a new 120GB hd. I'm installing these on 5 different situations for storage and backups of systems etc... I currently have 4 80GB hds that I use with an External IDE cable that plugs into my notebook ($29). I also us it to connect my DVD burner to my note book.

I enjoy God's Painting of Nature and I enjoy recording it for future viewing. I only pray and ask for the skill capture God's artwork for other's to enjoy and that He is glorified.

Have you looked at the date on the web site? It's 2001. Four years in the computer industry is what 8 generations? There have been many debates over the long term viability of digital medium since the streaming tape days. I still have 5 1/4" floppies with data on them. Do I want or need the data... Nah, it's more for nostalgia purposes. My point is the amount of data we can store today on medium (spinning or not) is many orders of magnitude greater than even two years ago. Remember when 40GB was a HUGE hard drive. It's hard to even buy an EIDE drive less than 80GB now. My point is I don't count on my CD backup to last as long as the media will last. I will transfer them to another, then another, ad infinitum... Soon we will be able to have a wristwatch sized device with a TB of storage and our little 640MB CDROMS will be dwarfed by the next generations storage medium.
I applaud you thinking about long term storage. I'll bet not all of us do.

I can't agree more. I have 250GB inside my iMac and another 500GB outside via Firewire. One is a bootable backup and the other is for things moved off the main HD, but still needing backup/easy access. Personally, I like AMS Electronics Venus DS3 enclosures with Seagate or Maxtor drive inside.
