Nah, it's more for nostalgia purposes. My point is the amount of data we can store today on medium (spinning or not) is many orders of magnitude greater than even two years ago. Remember when 40GB was a HUGE hard drive. It's hard to even buy an EIDE drive less than 80GB now. My point is I don't count on my CD backup to last as long as the media will last. I will transfer them to another, then another, ad infinitum... Soon we will be able to have a wristwatch sized device with a TB of storage and our little 640MB CDROMS will be dwarfed by the next generations storage medium.
I applaud you thinking about long term storage. I'll bet not all of us do.

I have a site that sells an external HD kit for about $77 with a new 120GB hd. I'm installing these on 5 different situations for storage and backups of systems etc... I currently have 4 80GB hds that I use with an External IDE cable that plugs into my notebook ($29). I also us it to connect my DVD burner to my note book. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...K1&cat=HDD |
I can't agree more. I have 250GB inside my iMac and another 500GB outside via Firewire. One is a bootable backup and the other is for things moved off the main HD, but still needing backup/easy access. Personally, I like AMS Electronics Venus DS3 enclosures with Seagate or Maxtor drive inside.
