Cool Film process & enlargement in/around Plano - 03-08-2007, 09:02 AM

Some friends of mine from Plano want me to take some pictures for them. I'll give them the exposed film and they will have the processing and enlargements made themselves. They live in Plano. A friend of theirs offered this advice:

Quote:
If I have film developed, I normally do it @ Wolf on 15th Street & 75. Otherwise, there’s a place on 75 & Arapaho called B&W that is very professional (& much higher priced I imagine). Once the film is developed, you can have it scanned and printed @ 14th Street Gallery but you would have to call Gaby to see if she will scan the film. You could also have the film developed @ B&W and scanned by them (probably a good solution).
What do you all say? I will use either 35mm or 120 depending on which can be processed easily & locally. I forgot: color film.

Thanks for your help!

I believe BWC Labs does indeed have a location at 75 & Arapaho. They are well known for their quality work with everything from 35mm to large format.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure that BWC is first rate. However, I reckon that Wolf Camera in Plano is more than adequate for the 8x10 that my friends want. Worst case: Wolf botches the job & I can re-shoot and send the film to BWC.

Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if BWC is actually cheaper than Wolf. Wolf tends to be at the high end of the pricing range on almost everything.

Really? All I'm talking about is develop & 4x6 prints of 1 roll (I'm guessing 24 exp.) of film and 1 8x10. I'll pass along the information. They can decide.

One of the better camera stores in the North Dallas area: http://www.camera-stop.com/

The owner is very cool and personable. He does good work.

Perfect! Locally owned is always a big plus in my mind.

Thanks!

There's a place in McKinney that does 120 size film as well: SPS Photo Imaging. I had a couple rolls processed by them, and they did a fine job, at a reasonable price. I didn't get any prints made, so can't comment on that, but it's another locally owned small business.

(I know you've already found a place, but thought I'd list another since businesses that process medium/large format film can be difficult to find these days.)

I have also used SPS in McKinney for digital and film enlargements. They did a good job and were very nice to work with.

I can also recommend camera-stop. While I haven't used them for film, they have been great for digital developing -- they publish profiles for their printers.

Thanks again everyone. I shot the buggy and pine tree on 35mm Reala. The roll should be at Camera Stop later this week.
