I've always wondered what the rule is for what level to shoot at. I feel like the person that shot these were too low and were looking up at the couple...I know you can break the rules, but is there a standard?? And BTW...the one photo is a good reason to learn how to hold the camer properly so you don't block the flash!!! Also no need to criticize the photos...we critiqued them to death already...just looking for the height issue..thanks in advanced.

From what I have heard, for head shots you should be shooting above the subject, for 3/4 shots the camera should be eye level and for full length the camera should be waist level. I guess this is assuming that you are the same height as your subjects. The first shot looks to me like they were shooting from way too low. The second shot looks ok to me.

Renae,

Here are the "rules":

If you're shooting head and shoulder or full-frame head shots, place the camera at about the same height as the subjects' eyes. Try to put the subjects' eyes on an imaginary line that is 1/3rd down from the top of your viewfinder's frame.

If you're shooting full-length, half-length, or 3/4-length, put the camera at chest height to your subject. In the case of full-length poses, remember to take into account that light will fall off... leaving the lower body underexposed.

You can go by the "nostril rule"... " if you see the nostrils, you are too low."
