Plus Size Model - 04-01-2007, 02:36 PM

I need tips on shooting a plus-sized (petite size 18-20) model to minimize the "You made me look fat" syndrome. She is nicely proportioned, just larger than average.... no bell- or pear-shapes hear.... just a big hourglass

She wants family portraits in the bluebonnets with a 3 and 5 yr old. Probably looking at a hillside I know that faces west, sun hits it nicely around 7pm.

In general watch your camera position and angles. NEVER have her square to the sensor plain. Try to shoot down a little and don't let her chin drop to minimize the double. Long sleeve blouse if possible. Some creative cropping can also minimize. Solid darker colors also work well, but may not be right for your theme.

Good luck!

Also screen her with the kids.. some creative posing of them in front of her will hide some of the excess weight, too.

I completely agree with Brad about screening her with the kids in front of her.
Here are a few shots from that session:

Right! Screen her with the kids then take some vertical pictures, or get down on her level with the kids surrounds her...

take a stepstool, or a 2 ledge ladder, and shoot down.

for some fun images, shoot with a wide angle like a 16-35 and use the distortion to your advantage. Also, use shadows to help create the illusion that you want to see in your final images.
