I Have A Problem - 04-08-2007, 02:53 PM

I hope someone can help me with this.

When I have an image in photoshop I can resize it to 16x24 and 20x30 with no problem.

30x40 isn't too tuff either, BUT......

When I crop it to 20x24 I have a big problem because I end up losing too much of the image at this size and I don't understand why.

I've used the crop tool, resize and some other attempts and I can't get it to work without losing too much of the image.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON HOW TO DO THIS?

Thanks,

Mike V

Downsizing is a major issue. On my site I post a lot of photos that are downsized and losing image detail is something you can't go around.
I try to resize the photos in steps (downsize 20% at a time, made an action of that) and then I use the unsharpen filter to bring back most of the sharpness and detail as possible.
Note that with resizing you will always lose detail.

I think hes trying to crop a shot that is shot too tight due to the crop factor my d70 images i can crop to 16 x 24 with no problem but 16 x 20 you will loose quite a bit of the image is that the problem ?

Shoot with the crop in mind or crop with some extra background made.
(Adding to what David said.)

I tend to shoot too tight as well and run into this issue frequently. If you have a solid color background you can expand the canvas and then fill in the new area with the BG color and then crop. This works for me when I do portraits on black, but at weddings I've just learned to shoot looser and that has helped tremendously.
