Ok, I have several images that I want to print exactly 8x10 in size (cos I already have an 8x10 album).
I do not want to crop the images, because that would mean loss of face area and so forth.
But my image dimensions are a little wacky, and I've played in Photoshop to try to resize them. I can get them to be 8x12, but if I try to force it to be 8x10 it ends up resampling and stretching the image to look weird.
How can I resize the photos so that I can print them 8x10 without any cropping? Is there a way to do this? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Not that I'm aware. Cropping is your only option quality wise.

Not unless you want to clone or liquefy the long edges of the photo.

Everything that comes out of my Nikon (dimensionally speaking) is natively at 4x6 ( or 8x12.... or 12x18.... you get the point). There's no way to convert something that is basically at a 2:3 aspect ratio to 4:5 without cropping something.

You could always have the image at 6x9 and then Photoshop mat them on an 8x10 image canvas. Here's just a basic white canvas at 8x10 with a 6x9 image dropped on it. You can color you mat or design stuff on it to tie in with the images. Or just leave it white. It keeps you from cropping and you may be able to add some flair....

This reminds me....must rewatch Office Space for the millionth time tonight. Thanks for the laugh with the Flair!
Seriously, back to OP - to avoid this in the future, leave some crop room. I had to learn the hard way too....in fact, I had "crop lines" put on my 20D last year to show me where an 8x10 crop would be. They were helpful, cause I was like a kindergartener, always trying to color outside the lines. There is a thead on here with the guy's name who did the crop lines. He was recommended by Fran Reisner....

You might check out this site for Portfolios. No 8x12 but there is a 9x12.
They are pretty nice quality. I have several in 8.5x11 and 11x14. http://www.artsupply.com/portfolio/itoyaartcare.htm

will switching pixels to inches work? i have to try it out, but i doubt it will since the aspect ratio has to be maintained
i simply crop for 8x10 now or use the 6x9 on top of 8x10 mat approach
of course, the best way is to SHOOT for 8x10 - so that your crop later on has already been accounted for ...
sigh, if i only had such foresight .... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
