Erica,

Did you receive Elements when you purchased your XTi ? Are you pretty familiar with Elements ? Many of the same items will be used in CS2, CS3 ... however, the photoshop versions have much, much more than you can imagine. But, like everything else, there is a huge learning curve ... I know I am far from being even a mediocre photoshop user, but my knowledge has grown over the last 2-3 years I've been using various versions of Photoshop. So my suggestion would be based more on what you want to do, and how much time and effort do you want to spend learning the software application. There are classes at community colleges, and there is a website: www.photoshopuser.com (NAPP) that has seminars, national conferences, tutorials and numerous books to support you in your learning. Even if you don't become a member of "NAPP", the next time a seminar comes around to Arlington (about once a year), put aside the $100.00 or so and plan on attending. You will be amazed not only in the number of people attending but also what the instructors will show you (and they only "skim" the surface).
Good luck with your decision.
Randy

No I did not receive Elemnets. I'm not familar with any of it actually. Is elements the basics in it? Is that where I should start and then see what I would want from there. I want to increase my photography skills so I don't rely on what you can do with photoshop (from what I've seen on here) so much.

Erica,

Here's a link to Adobe's website for Elements ver 5 you might find it on sale at Frys, Office Depot, or Best Buy ... not sure.

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/

I went the route at the beginning of using Elements, and then after a few months I decided to upgrade to CS-2. There was a "deal" that allowed me to upgrade from Elements to the full photoshop CS-2 version. I can't remember right now, but in the end I don't think I spent any more money than if I had purchased CS2 outright. That gave me a little opportunity to do some of the same things in Elements that I would be doing in Photoshop. However, as I said in my other post, if you have the resources and time to spend on CS3, you might want to jump in with both feet and bypass Elements. Its all subject to various opinions which way to start. A lot of photographers swear by Elements in that it does everything they want to do .... "for now" ...

Erica,

Elements is a good way to figure out how PS works. Not quite the same as CS2/CS3 but it will get you familiar with the product. It comes with the raw converter (probably not all the options that CSx has but I got my old Elements 3 to use the raw converter for my Rebel XT with no problems at all:)

Best regards,

What software would I need to buy to remove the lease from this picture? It is possible? Would Adobe Elements do it?

Hi Erica,

I just saw Adobe Elements 5.0 at Frys listed at $149.00 with $40.00 mail in-rebate yesterday.

I think that version of Elements would be able to "clone" away the leash. Learn how to create a duplicate layer, and learn to work on the copied layers. That will be a good habit to start doing from the beginning, then you can expand later by doing many things working on copied layers.

Good luck.
Randy
