Ilfochrome - Again

In Vegas this past week I got a chance to stop by the Peter Lik "Gallery" store. I was simply blown away by the prints, after a little research it looks like he prints on Ilfochrome. I'll admit I still don’t completely understand all the details of the process of shooting and printing to Ilfochrome, when I shot film I it was whatever I picked up at KMart.

So now I'm interested in film even more now (I've been contemplating for a few months, now I have a reason).

My question is if I wanted to get started learning how slide film (assuming that's where I should start it I want to print Ilfochrome) what should I do first? Buy a film 35mm and shoot slide or is there a way I can shoot digital and still get a quality Ilfochrome print.

Also all the pricing i see for prints are upwards of $40 for 1 8x10 is this the norm?

Thanks, I ran across this article and site before the post but they honestly didn't provide the insight i was hoping for.

Another question may be, does someone have first hand expeirence with the media also how much would it cost to setup a DR to do the processing myself?

I know, I know.... tons of questions.
