Why does variations of the color red seem so hard to get right, or close to right, in camera? I know that tweaking can be done in post processing but until recently when I began to see other's comments regarding "reds", I thought I might have been the only one with the problem...
It is just a function of that particular part of the spectrum? A sensor issue? A camera setting issue, ie: saturation, etc.?
Just curious...
Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide.

Go to a body shop and ask them to guarantee a match of red. They will run screaming down the street. Red is a hard color to match because there are a jillion variations. Just look at the different reds for a car. It can drive you crazy.

Since red is on the end of the light spectrum ( remember ROYGBIV ?) the different wavelengths are hard to capture correctly. Also because of this, the same red object can appear different shades to different people (they have different sensors-eyes and processors- brain). The car painter will run, and the magazine editor will be right next to him.
