Thumbs up How to add a Copyright in PS - 05-10-2007, 10:36 AM

To add a copyright notice to your image using Photoshop CS2:

1. Open a new image by going to File> New. Any size will do, as long as it’s not tiny. Then choose the Type tool from the toolbar or get it by typing T on your keyboard. Click on your image to start typing (this will automatically put your text on a new layer).

2. To make the © using a PC, hold down the Alt key and type 0169 on the keypad. On a Mac, press Option + G. Then type in a copyright notice (your name, your company, etc.) as you want it to appear. Pick a font you like -- you’ll be stuck with it.

3. Now hide the Background layer. Do this by clicking the eye icon to the left of its name. Make sure your Type layer is still selected (click on it if not). Then select your text: Go to Select > Color Range, move the Fuzziness slider all the way to 200, and click OK.

4. Then make your custom brush: Choose Edit > Define Brush Preset. Enter a descriptive name for the brush (like MyCopyright), and click OK.

5. To use your new brush, select it. Grab the Brush tool (type B). Then, from the Options bar at the top of your screen, pull down the Brush menu and scroll to the bottom. Select the one you made, and stamp your copyright anywhere you want.

Pretty nifty but can this also be done in PS Elements 4?

I'm not sure about that. I do most of my work in CS2.

By the way, I think you have to use the numbers on the number-pad and not the ones on the top of the keyboard ... at least for PCs.

Laptops have a 10 key but its a bit different to use. Thats what the "FN" key is used for. It activates the 10 key.

On a PC you can also go to Start and then choose run and then type charmap and press enter. This brings up the Windows Character Map. Character map is a list of most (all?) characters (letters and symbols) in all of the default Windows languages. You can scroll through here and find the symbol you want (in this case the copyright symbol) and then click on the symbol (it will get bigger) then click the select button and then click the copy button. Now go over to photoshop where you have started the typing of the text and paste it in (control-v or edit \ paste).

The benefit oif knowing how to do this (as it's way more complicated than that code) is that you can now use any and all of the symbols in the Character Map (including dollar sign, cents sign, euros sign, pounds sign, bunches of mathematical symbols, etc).
