Brothers Photo - 05-23-2007, 09:44 AM

I am going to be photographing 3 brothers and I want to print on Canvas. Problem is, I have never printed anything on Canvas so, how is the best way to shoot the photo so a canvas print will work? Does High Key look good, Low Key, outdoors with a lot of green grass, shoot the kids in front of some type of textured building, etc. What makes canvas prints look good?

Oh, also, if anyone has any suggested poses that would be helpful also.

Thanks

The only suggestion I would give about printing on canvas is not to try printing small faces or something that needs to show a lot of detail. I don't print any portraits less than 11x14 on canvas because the texture tends to take a lot of the detail out of the faces if they're too small.

Whatever you’re looking for is looking for you, too. The catch, of course, is recognizing it when it pops up in front of you.

to canvas or not to canvas - 05-24-2007, 09:56 AM

I was going to start a new post this morning but I feel this would be a better place...I hope you don't mind..I am trying to decide if this photo would make a good canvas. I am in the same boat...never done a canvas and would like to do one from some of the dancers of a recital I did recently...this is my daughter...not real thrilled with the lighting or the color of her skin..but it is the best I have besides a group...if you were the parent which would you prefer, or neither??

Simply Canvas had a webinar the other day that tells you about their canvases and they show you what kind of images they are using. I would thumb through their site and see the samples they offer and sign up for the next webinar. Part of it is totally about preference - I prefer low key much more to high key - so my stuff leans that way. However, they have some nice stuff on their site that isnt low key. So a lot of it is your preference. Main thing is to leave a gutter so the image can be wrapped - otherwise you'll have to get the boarder.
