Mine came today. I just finished the first chapter and looking forward to more. John, thanks for the recommendation. I feel a paradigm adjustment coming on.

Randy, just purchased one at the website Stovall recommended, there were several left in the U.S. if you are still looking.

Stovall, thanks for the advice. Based on the interest, we all seem to agree that composition is really what drives the best pictures.

Question - the pictures in my copy are so dark I am barely able to make out any mid-tones whatsoever. In some cases, it interferes with what the author is trying to describe...

Is this just my copy, or is it just the type of press used?

Thanks. That seems to be the edition that is for sale everywhere I have looked.

NP - it doesn't affect the content, which so far has been educational (and valuable, given I've never read much about composition with the exception of Rule of 2/3, and simple stuff like that), but a bit dry...

My copy was in pretty good condition but some of the prints in my book are really dark and difficult to figure out. Lot of them are also very grainy and kind of smudgy. The color photos look good, but I have to admit that the B&W prints leave a bit to be desired. For example the photo on page 116 (photo 68) I can see detail in the immediate foreground, and some in the background, but the middle of the photo has very little detail. The text says "It shows a disused and partly destroyed sluice in Norway" Looking at the photo in the book I first thought it was a boat! What I have read in the book so far makes sense and I look forward to have a bit more time and be able to read it cover to cover without interuption:) The B&W photo prints are a bit of a disappointment, but I think my copy is ok to demonstrate the ideas, with a few exceptions.

My copy is preinted in GB By A. Wheaton & Co., Exeter, first edition 1981.

Best regards,

I'll pass on another book, I prefer to sit with my Dad and listen. Now that I'm older I find it easier to listen to his experience.

I wish I had started listening a long time ago.

Btw, he was art director for a small ad agency in SA as long as I can remember until they shut down and he retired. He knows composition....and color, fonts, and even taught water color at times.
