Shooting Chrome - 06-10-2007, 08:38 AM

I am trying to shoot some chrome pieces in a light box. I need to shoot them head on for framing a set of them. My problem is my shots look like i am shooting a mirror. You can see me or the camera every time.

The chrome is multi angle. One is the Dodge ram head, and there are several others Dodge emblems. Its hard to just shoot to one side because of the angles. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Are you using a polarizer? Unsure what effect it might have, but it might help...

Also - maybe use a longer focal length, so that you're not within the reflective range of the chrome, or any reflections aren't 'defined'...

Have you considered using a mirror? I "think" that you might be able to take the camera out of the chrome, so to speak, by shooting the chrome in a mirror... just a thought.

If your light tent were larger you could use a longer lens and therefore its reflection would be minimal. If you use a piece of foamcore with a hole just big enough for the camera lens for the front of the tent it should minimize the size of the lens reflection. When photographing shiny objects treat it like a mirror and give it something to reflect.

Shucks. I thought this was going to be about using Kodachrome, Ektachrome or Fujichrome.
