VERY FIRST prego-portrait gig.... - 07-02-2007, 09:16 AM

I am doing my first portrait shots of a girlfriend of mine who is 8months pregnant very soon. I have an awesome Canon 5D with a 50mm lens and an 80mm lens that I practice working on portrait photography. My main question is does anyone have any suggestions on how I should set up backgrounds for the shoot? I will be going to her home and setting up, but I am not sure about backgrounds to make the pictures look soft and sort of intimate. I thought about just putting a white sheet behind her or a black sheet but I am afraid the pics may come out looking not so great. Should I just order the big sheets of black or white paper to have behind her? Any advice will be welcomed!

What are you using for lighting? There are lots of alternatives to light maternity shots.. but if "sort of intimate" is what you want, a window light might be best.

Also, take a look at lots of maternity pics before you get started... look at how they are posed and lit... use them as a reference. My first maternity pics came out lousy cause I treated it much the same way I would a regular session.

Here is my maternity portfolio... feel free to use them as reference.. I'm sure others will post some of theirs, too.
