Did I do it justice? - 07-10-2007, 07:22 PM

It's not perfect...I was playing to see if I liked it. I was posting some photos from our neighborhood celebration and wanted to do some different photos, besides the normal shots. Did I do it justice???

How about keeping all the reds and blues? not just the guy on the bike?

OK, I tried it and I take it back. Preserving all the reds and blues looks dumb. One suggestion I have, however, is to preserve the blue reflection of the frame in the puddle.

What about preserving anything that has the American flag in it? You seemed to set the theme with the man on the bike.

You replied again saying you tried it and it looks dumb. However, I agree with your first post quoted above.

You notice these other folks wearing American styled stuff, but they're B&W. The focus is being brought to the guy on the bike. Then you wonder "so whats so special about this guy on the bike?"

You're focusing on the guy on the bike, but why? I think "it can't be because of what he's wearing, because other people have flag-like stuff too... but if thats not why, then why is he the focus?"

Just things to consider. Although highlighting all the flag-wearers might look dumb, it just seems strange with just the guy on the bike being the focus.

I like the original photo though. It shows a sense of community and the neighborhood folk getting together.

Well my camera is equipped with a 1000 megasquirtle light sensitive array with a megakilo double widget interface and a pseudo-terrafilter. its got 2 million hexafurtles with a 10 kiloplex and a rechargeable virtual combo-backplate. i also fitted an optical fillyfangle with predictive threshold histogram monitoring. it also has a light sensitive light meter and a time sensitive shutter mechanism.

I have a question......might be a dumb question.

How do you just preserved the color on just the guy on the bike?
Whats the process call?

It's selective coloring.

Basically you have two layers -- one colored and one B&W. If the B&W is on top, you make a mask so that the black and white comes through everywhere except on the bicycle guy. Building the mask can be simple or tricky, depending on what you are trying to mask. But the basic idea is that the mask is white everywhere the B&W will come through, and black where the bicycle guy is.

I prefer the first one. The image is about, I'm assuming, the fourth of July and celebrating it. Fourth of July is all about color, specifically, red white and blue. I don't think it should be done with selective color at all, but just my opinion.

How about this? Kind of like an old sepia toned pic with red and blue selectively colored. Took about 2 min in Lightroom.

Any tutorials on selective coloring in lightroom?

Thanks in advance
