40's - 60's Style shooting. - 07-11-2007, 12:08 AM

I don't know the best place to post this, hopefully it gets enough attention here. So here is it. Does anyone have experience with the 50's style glamour portraits.

Lighting suggestions, set design \ ideas, props if any and clothing suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
RMD

Wasn't that starting around the Poodle Skirt era? And after the Hollywood lighting era? You might look around eBay for LP's of the times for some jacket cover photos...

LP's? If you have to ask... lol!

Oh, and the microphones in that time line are now becoming collector items as being very distinct.

Google pin-up photography

Also see the following book for a brief discussion of Vintage Hollywood lighting.

http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lightin.../dp/1584281251

I fooled around with it a little about a month ago using strobes with grids. I would post an example but it is already archived off the computer.

I like the mic idea, and can see how the poddle skirt can work also. What about gentlemen from the same time frame? For me it seems like a huge part of the look is hair, or is that just me?

I found a book.... (I'm at work so, for the name I'll have to get back to you). I think it was something like " Female Celeb. of the 60's. I got it at half price book store for around $6-$7.
It has lots of images.

Saw it during lunch --- swingin chicks of the 60's

Since the title of your message said 1940's on, check out this website for WWII pinup ideas.

Very cool. I'll be sure to check this out at the house. The work "pin up" and work some how dont seem to mix.

Thanks...

Funny for the timing. I was just at a lighting class on Friday that focused on Hollywood lighting techniques. It was offered by the guys at Light Tec in Dallas...

Go on... Where they able to pull it off with strobes? Or did they use some kind of continous lighting?

I have a studio mic, that looks like something older.

Google "large diaphragm mic" and you can get the idea.

Have it delivered to your nearest Target if they don't have one in stock.

They had modeling lights in the strobes. Now I wish I had taken shots of the setup. I'll try and scrap together a shot I actually liked off the shoot and post it.
