I go for High ISO and very fast lenses. You can see the results here.

If you have the $ to spend and the proper equipment that is definitely an option. This person is new to photography and has a Nikon D40... So high ISO and a F1.0 lens more than likely isn't an immediate option for them.

Given the situation/limitations...I'd echo what most have posted here... low iso, long shutter and tripod.

Amazing Pics - 08-03-2007, 05:10 AM

Hi Susan
Those were really Amazing pics. The Red Rock thing sounds awesome but I dont think I will be able to make it there coz its a business trip and time wouldn't allow me to do so.

Do you recommend any photoclubs in Houston. And also any areas around Houston (hour or two away) to take some nice shots.

Thanks once again . You have been a great help.

Sam

Sam - -

I have listed all the clubs in the Houston area that I know of…… and I also listed my FAVORITE one first……hee hee…. Each club offers their own ‘spin’ on specialities, focus, personalities, meeting dates, levels of expertise, subjects covered. Check out several and see what fits for you. There may be others that I am not aware of.

Next Saturday Aug 11 - The Woodlands Photography Club is going to be having an educational event open to all photo enthusiasts…… stay tuned for details in the TPF ‘ Houston area ‘ forum…… probably will post info Sunday night or Monday.

I dunno.... Popular Photography magazine did a recent test on the D40x and were amazed at the low noise at high ISO. Nikon + high ISO does not always mean lots of noise. Just like Canon + high ISO does not always mean low noise.

Not trying to kick off a Nikon vs. Canon debate here. Just getting tired of the implication that all Nikons are crap at high ISO.

Good to hear they are catching up. Canon need some competition in that area to keep things improving. I don't pay much attention to new cameras so haven't even heard of the D40x. Does it have a good 3200 or 6400 ISO mode ?
