Looking for a photography tutor - 08-14-2007, 08:07 AM

I am looking for a photography class preferably in Tarrant County. I have purchased and tried reading books and online articles but I think some live instruction would help me with some of my more basic questions.

I would be thrilled to find someone who would be willing to do a few sessions one on one but don't know if that a possibility.

Any recommendations would be appreciated,
Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Send me a PM and depending on what type of photography you want to do, perhaps I can help.

You didn't mention the kind of photography you want to learn. If you are looking for "free" I would recommend contacting two or three photographers whose work you admire and ask if you could "shadow" them for a few sessions. In my opinion most schools like TCJC either don't offer classes or the classes are not very relevant to the real world. Look in the "Workshops" section on this forum and you will find several classes.

Sorry to hijack the thread ...

I would love to do something like this as well ... either one on one work or shadowing in the Houston area. Any interest?

If you are looking for studio or location photography, both Scott and Don had good suggestions.

If you are looking for the basics, I have a class coming up in September.... info in the Workshops and Classes section.

Same goes with more advanced concepts, too.. there are always workshops going on given by members around here... everything from some of the basics of studio and outdoor lighting all the way up to full blown glamour sessions.

I must be just missing the classes in the Houston area ... but I really think that I would like something hands on.

I am interested in all types of photography as I believe that the lessons learned will be transferable. My niche, or what I most enjoy, is photographing children.

I just finished a low light photography class at Brookhaven Community College with Mark Falk. I really enjoyed this class because we went to different locations to shoot instead of just meeting in a boring class for several hours.

Looks like I will have to venture up to Collin County Community College for a better variety of classes next.

Sharon,

You still did not mention what type of photography you are interested in. If you like nature, you can come along with us.

Good Morning,
Thank you for the offer, I just found this forum about a month ago and I love the friendly nature of this board. My main interest is photojournalism, specifically capturing the lives of my children and family.

Sharon,

Our kids are grown, so we have "adopted" nature. You are still welcome to join us anytime.
