Critique requested - 08-23-2007, 10:27 PM

Would it be possible for someone to critique my shots? I did my first real shoot this last week and am wondering if I can get an honest opinion about the results? I wanted to instill a sense of life and balance in each shot. Something extra that makes it feel deeper than just a picture.

What I'm asking for is honest opinions and artistic critique. I know they are not perfect as this is my first shoot, but I would greatly appreciate any advice or constructive criticism you can give me.

Thank you in advance!

I will try to make more detailed and helpful comments later but since its late and I just had time for a quick glance through my main thing I noticed is that some of them the skin seems way to high contrast very much an orange color not very flattering.

I haven't shown the pictures to them just yet. I agree about the contrast, I think I will try and clean those a bit photoshop.

Any ideas on the golden skin? We had 3 bright lights to handle lighting, I set my camera speed to 1/225 @ about f4.7.

I appreciate the critique so far though =-)

I have no comments on your artistic view since it's really subjective. But technically, you probably don't want to shoot them at 1600 ISO F16 wide open. With the same focal length and the correct distance, you can knock that down to F4 and maybe 200-400 ISO.

Yeah the skin colors seem off to me too.

Katie1 is probably my Fav. Most of the others the expression doesn't seem real or natural, maybe they were to tense and not relaxed.

I appreciate the advice, I will remember the settings for the next shoot and try it out. I think it came out decent overall. I added 2 more pictures which I think are better shots.

I agree though that they do seem a tad unnatural. I will need to work on managing facial expressions for future shoots.

I like the poses on many of these. My favorite is Lauren-2 on the stairs, but since her hand was closer to the lights, I think you should burn it in a bit so that the skin is the same level as the legs.
One of the poses that's not working for me is the group kate-2, where no one is looking toward the lens. Just seems a bit stiff and "posed".
I agree with some of the other posters about a few of these being too orange.
And on Annie-1, whew, those teeth are the only thing you notice when you open that larger. I would actually tone down the white glow of the teeth a bit there.

Jen2BW works tho I'd take a little off the top of the frame as it seems a little unbalanced w/ the rest of the image.

I like the other JenBW except the smile is way to wide and thus it is all I see.
