Problem with the rebel xt kit lens - 08-30-2007, 08:17 PM

I just got the rebel xt yesterday and as I was taking pictures indoors today i noticed that the aperture wont open up all the way when I have it on aperture priority. I can only get it down to 5.6 and sometimes it goes to about 3. Why is this?

Hey Odie, I have a Rebel XT also, and so i assume your kit lens is the 18mm-55mm???
The trick is, when you zoom to 18mm, your aperture will go to 3.5. When you at 55mm it will only do 5.6. So your lens should be fine, and its a great camera! Happy shooting!
