Jet truck at dusk/night - any tips? - 10-15-2007, 10:48 AM

I am likely to have the opportunity to shoot a jet truck this Friday night. It will be running in the evening - not exactly sure what time, but it's likely to be low light conditions.

It will run fast along a runway and the flames are bright. It's only going to make one or two runs, so it's not like fireworks when you can try several times for a shot.

I'd like to be able to see the truck as well as the flames, but don't want the flames to be too washed out.

Anyone got any tips for these kind of conditions, please? Anyone shot one of these at night before?

For reference, here's last year's photos - it's the same truck:

By the way, the main event is on Saturday; the Moonlight Airshow at New Braunfels. Well worth a visit if you like aircraft.

Many thanks!

Contact Wes Storm at NitroArt.com. He is a drag photog pro and was the photog for "Beat the Heat" police drag team (they have a jet car). His email is wes@nitroart.com. Wes is my motorsports expert and one of my photogs in my business.
Tell him "Flash Bulb" sent you. Will look forward to see your pics.

I noticed that your post was from a few weeks ago, and this wont help you now but he is a great resource.

Thanks David, if I encounter the same situation next year (or sooner!) then I'll give him a holler.

Patrick, I tried to look but it said 'no gallery found'.

I didn't really get much in the way of night shots in the end, but the jet truck stuff is all on pages 16 and 17, here.

You are exactly right David it was Temple. The setting is perfect for the nostalgic races. Sponsored by a group called the Kontinentals www.dayofthedrags.com it is held once a year but alot of the guys are talking about doing one at the denton track

Hey Tyler, I just wanted to tell you that there are some night drag racing shots in the transportation section of the forum. You might get more info there.

BTW...love the shots at Temple. We have a front engine dragster and the group we run with was there, but we didn't make it. We can't miss it next year! I hope they come to Denton. It's 10 miles from us!!
